If ever you’re curious, a sea of clouds is a very characteristic phenomenon in mountainous areas. It creates a surreal panorama of a thick spread of stratocumulus clouds from which peaks of mountains arise like islands out of a sea. It is formed when a warm layer of air is trapped between the cold air in the valley and the cold air in the upper layer of the sky.
