There is just something about natural attractions that calls to our spiritual core. And Samar is proving to have lots of hidden natural gems in their midst.

A remote town, Matuguinao in Samar, have opened its doors to a new attraction that is an answer to the summer heat we all want to escape from, a cold spring.

The Maslog Cold Spring is located along the Gandara-Matuguinao road and just around 500 meters away from another attraction, the Matugnao Cold Spring.

This pool-like spring has its fresh water running from a cave and into this river of the coolest blue-green color that just begs to be dipped in. The cold bath is just a perfect end to an active day of caving tour.

The local government unit is the one who manages and run the operation of the resort in order to promote the town’s tourism potential and erase the negative image of the town that is link to insurgency problem.

If you’re wondering why you’ve only heard of this place now, it’s because the town of Matuguinao used to be a geographically isolated and disadvantage area (GIDA). Compared to the 45-minute land travel today, it was accessible only by a 4-6 hours boat ride.

As it is still relatively new, there are still a lot of upgrades to be made like comfort rooms and changing area, a multi-purpose building for functions, cottages, and some kiosks.

Aside from the cold spring, the town of Matuguinao will make you stay with a collection of waterfalls and caves to visit.

Note: Contact the tourism office for reservation as they impose a 50 percent carrying capacity.
