The municipality of Merida in the province of Leyte will soon see the rise of a coastal project that is expected to rev up the town’s tourism and economic potentials.

Conceptualized through the vision of Merida Mayor Engr. Rolando M. Villasencio, Merida-Leyte Sustainable Coastal Tourism Development Project is currently being worked on in the hopes of promoting sustainable tourism development and eventually, create a catalyst for a long-term local government socio-economic development, employment creation and poverty reduction.

Merida may be one of the most beautiful towns in the province but for whatever reason, its tourism potentials has never been maximized to its full advantage and has instead concentrated in agriculture as its main economic driver.

The newest project is expected to jumpstart the hidden idle socio-economic and tourism potential of the town, enhance the activity of trade and commerce, and make it ready to adopt and embrace the challenges of the 21st century.

As of writing, there has been no available materials yet explaining the specifics of the project but this surely is a good one to watch out not just by the people of Merida but also by Ormoc City and other nearby towns.
