Mountaineering aficionados certainly have their fair share of listing which are their favorite peaks that they have trekked. And there is one peak in Eastern Visayas they are familiar with: Mt. Aminduen’s Alto Peak in Ormoc City.

Known as the highest peak in Eastern Visayas, Mt. Aminduen stands proud and tall at 1,332 meters above sea level (MASL). This peak is known among hikers and trekkers not just in the area but also to those all over the country.

Those who were brave enough to go up the peak have said that it is indeed a marvel. Even the trail alone is wholesome, as you get to take notice of nature with its fresh breeze and lush vegetation. The trail could be very difficult so it is advised to do some research before proceeding.

Setting camp overnight at the peak is also even more rewarding, as you get to see the vast skies at night shimmering with stars. This experience is surely worthwhile when spent with friends.

Fees:

  • Registration Fee: Php 25.00
  • Guide Fee: Php 300.00 for one day tour, Php 500.00 for overnight
  • No corkage fee on food but there is a charge for use of big tables at Php 150.00 and Php 100.00 for the small tables.

How to Get There?

Exact Location: Brgy. Cabintan, Ormoc City, Leyte, Visayas

Starting from Cebu City, you can catch a ferry shuttle bound to Ormoc City at Pier 3. Upon arrival at the port of Ormoc, you can rent transport services trucks bound to Barangay Cabintan, Ormoc City, the base of the peak. Usually they charge Php 2,000 for 18 pax (back and forth). From there, you can meet local guides that offer to take you along the trail up to the peak. Other options you can try is by habal-habal from Ormoc City to Brgy Cabintan at Php 200.00/pax (one way only).
