Every year, the Philippines is hit by about 20 tropical cyclones. The country recorded 15 typhoons.

The first tropical cyclone of the year is identified with a name that begins with the letter A, such as Auring in 2021, and so on as one disturbance follows another. It was the Typhoon name ‘Odette’ that we will never forget — one of the world’s strongest and deadliest storms of 2021.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the local names to tropical cyclones for 2022 when they enter or form inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
