A 17-year-old young Filipina has made history in the world of motorsports.
Yes. The speed is on for Racer Bianca Bustamante as she officially joined the roster of 22 drivers in the 2022 W Series season. This series is the female equivalent of Formula One, the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars.
It is an all-female single-seater racing championship where she will drive in the Tatuus F3 T-318 formula car.
Bianca Bustamante awards and wins
- China Grand Prix Kart Scholarship (4 times)
- Macao International Kart Grand Prix (3 times). She also
- 4th out of 91 participants in the 2015 SKUSA SuperNationals
- Only Asian driver selected in the 2021 Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Girls on Track Rising Stars program
She is one of the youngest racers in the series at 17. She is also the only driver selected in 2022 to come straight out of karting which she has already made a name for herself.
She started out competing as a karter at just 5 years old, as she was exposed to it at an early age with her father being one. Cars, karts, and racing were her world, and watching the F1 was a bonding time with her father.
Bianca joined local and international competitions and won her first international race in the Macao International Kart Grand Prix at 6 years old. Imagine how talented and determined you could be to be winning at the mere age of 6.
A dream come true indeed, she will be making her W Series race debut on May 6, 2022, and will continue to work hard towards her ultimate goal of competing in F1.
Bianca is one of the Filipino women to look up to and be proud of in this generation.
