For the Academic Year 2022-2023, the French Embassy in Manila announced that they have officially opened applications for two government scholarship programs.
Selected PhilFrance-DOST Scholarship candidates must return to the Philippines immediately after completing their graduate degree to serve in return service or for a term equal to twice the amount of time they spent studying in France.
Since 2016, the PhilFrance Scholarship Program has funded the studies of more than 65 Filipinos who have been able to pursue their graduate degrees in the French language and literature, business, public policy and international development, engineering, mathematics, marine biology, applied chemistry, environmental and ecological sciences, physics, computer science, and public health in several of France’s most prestigious higher education institutions.
First Program: PhilFrance Scholarships
Called the “PhilFrance Scholarships,” the first program is aimed towards highly qualified students who have exhibited outstanding academic and leadership abilities in their scholastic and professional activities.
Awardees may pursue a master’s degree in any academic discipline taught in French higher education institutions, public or private.

- One round-trip ticket from Manila to France
- Exemption from visa application fees
- Monthly living allowance covering the duration of their studies
- Health care package
- Priority access to public student accommodations
Second Program: PhilFrance – DOST Scholarship
The second program, known as the PhilFrance – Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholarship, is aimed at Filipino professionals working in academic, research, or government institutions who want to pursue a master’s degree or doctorate at one of France’s public universities, as well as strengthen scientific cooperation and exchanges between France and the Philippines.
This program prioritizes the following fields of study: agriculture, bioengineering, bioinformatics (medical), biological sciences, climate change, forestry, health and medical research, material sciences, medical chemistry, natural resources and environment, nuclear application on health, nuclear medicine, veterinary sciences, and virology.

- Exemption from public university registration fees
- One round-trip ticket from Manila to France
- Exemption from visa application fees
- Monthly living allowance covering the duration of their studie
- Relocation allowance
- Coverage of pre-travel expenses
- Health care package
- Priority access to public student accommodations
How to apply?
Qualifications:
- Filipino citizens who are residing in the Philippines at the time of application.
- Not be more than 45 years old;
- In good health condition.
- Graduates or graduating students of a Philippine higher education institution.
- Hold a higher education diploma recognized by the Philippine government allowing enrollment in the host course in the French Republic
- For applicants to Master’s degree programs: final-year students or graduates of a Bachelor-level degree.
- Pass the admission requirements for graduate studies in any of the public universities in France; and pass the interview and other screening procedures.
Students who, at the time of application to the PhilFrance Scholarships, have already been awarded a French government scholarship (bourse du gouvernement français – BGF) under another type of program, are no longer eligible to avail this scholarship program, even if the previous one only covered health insurance.
