While Metro Manila is now at Alert Level 3 due to the recent surge in COVID cases, Iloilo remains under the more relaxed Alert Level 2 until January 15, 2022, but they are not letting their guard down.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas wants to be proactive in combating the Omicron variant’s threat among his constituents. On Monday, January 3, he declared that the local government unit is ready to conduct free RT-PCR tests on inbound passengers from the National Capital Region, Cebu, and Boracay through the Uswag Molecular Laboratory at the Jubilee Hall or Lapaz Plaza Gym.

“I am advising all travelers from NCR, Cebu, or Boracay to take an RT-PCR test through our Uswag Molecular Laboratory at the Jubilee Hall or Lapaz Plaza Gym. Let us just be certain. We will take your RT-PCR test for free. We just want you to be safe.”

Mayor Treñas also urged the public to avoid mixing with people outside their homes and stressed the importance of being proactive even if there are no Omicron variant cases in the city.

In preparation for the inoculation of kids aged 5 to 11 years old and the completion of primary doses, the local government has already requested additional doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines from the national government.
