The Buglasan Festival in Negros Oriental, Philippines, is a vibrant cultural celebration held annually, showcasing the region’s customs and heritage. The provincial government of Negros Oriental, through its disaster risk reduction office, is taking measures to ensure public safety during the festival, which coincides with the threat of Tropical Storm Kristine.
The Provincial Disaster And Emergency Operation Center (PDRRMO) chief Adrian Sedillo emphasized that while the festival is a priority, a broader advisory on disaster preparedness has been issued for the entire province, highlighting safety tips as rain is expected until Sunday.
The festival, running from October 18 to 27, features a grand showdown and street-dancing competition, with twelve local government units participating, and featuring colorful displays of dance, music, and art. October 25 has been declared a special non-working holiday to encourage public participation.
SAFETY FIRST
To ensure safety, exit points have been established at the event venue, the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex, and security personnel will be deployed, including members of various law enforcement agencies. Additionally, a carpet has been installed on stage to help prevent injuries due to wet floors.
Previously, some dancers from Sibulan town were injured from slipping on a wet floor during practice, underscoring the importance of safety measures. Over 700 security personnel are actively involved to maintain safety during the festival.
