False and misleading – the Miss Universe Organization clarified reports about the Saudi Arabia representative who will be joining the prestigious pageant this year.
News reports about the participation of Saudi Arabia in the 2024 Miss Universe pageant spread like wildfire across various social media platforms. Netizens were cheerful about the news especially since it will be the first time for the country to be part of the event.
The news came after Saudi model, Rumy Alqahtani, posted on social media to announce her participation in the Miss Universe pageant as she claimed that she is “the first participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Miss Universe pageant.” This was posted on Instagram which was then removed after the news escalated to rumors and misleading information around the globe.
The Miss Universe Organization gave a statement for denying the reports:
“While Saudi Arabia is not yet among those countries fully confirmed participating this year, we are currently undergoing a rigorous vetting process qualifying a potential candidate to be awarded the franchise and assigned national director to represent,” it indicated.
“Saudi Arabia will not have this opportunity to join our prestigious pageant until this is final and confirmed by our approval committee,” the organization added.
On the bright side, this year’s Miss Universe pageant will be in Mexico this coming September 2024.
