The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) stated an alert regarding Kanlaon Volcano.
On Tuesday, September 9, 2024, PHIVOLCS announced that the volcano might have a series of eruptions following several recent earthquakes in the region.
PHIVOLCS chief Teresito Bacolcol advised residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and prepare for potential volcanic activity. The warning shows the need for heightened awareness and readiness to ensure safety in the affected areas.
Possible Hazards from the Kanlaon Volcano
According to the DOST-PHIVOLCS, the Kanlaon Volcano is already in ALERT LEVEL 2 due to its increasing unrest. Some of the possible hazards that may occur would include the sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and increased seismic activities.
