There had been speculations that the establishment of the Mindanao Railway Project would cease due to reasons related to unappropriated budget. However, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) reassured the public that there’s no need to worry since everything is moving forward.

“There are three to four private individuals and companies aggressively showing interest in collaborating on the MRP master plan,” Secretary Leo Tereso Magno shared during a press conference.

In partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and MinDA, they are moving to build the MRP Phase 1 wherein more details will be released come December 2024.

Connecting Cities with Efficiency

Davao, Tagum, and Digos are the cities that will be connected once the MRP Phase 1 is built. It is also expected that there will be a total of eight (8) train stations throughout the region for a cost of more than 81 Billion Pesos!

Contrasting the current travel time of commuters, the establishment of the MRP will lower the travel time from three hours to just an hour of travel to and from the connected cities. It’s also foreseen that the MRP will serve beyond a hundred thousand passengers on a day to day basis.

More news and updates will be given, so just stay tuned. And for now, let’s hope for the best on this latest project as it not only affects travelers but also aims to boost the tourism industry of Mindanao.
