Contractual employees in government agencies across Northern Mindanao can now rejoice! The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in the region (PhilHealth-10) signed a landmark Memorandum of Agreement as a part of its 29th founding anniversary with several regional government agencies on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, effectively extending health insurance coverage to these often-overlooked workers.

With the MOA signifying an important step towards inclusivity within the country’s healthcare system, we’re looking forward to more implementations of programs that are inclusive of workers’ benefits throughout every government agency. PhilHealth-10 Vice President Delio Aceron II has expressed the importance of including contractual workers in insurance systems as “these workers are not exempt from getting sick and hospitalized,” also noting that their absence significantly affects the functionalities of some agencies.

Also signing the MOA alongside PhilHealth-10 were the following government agencies:

  • Department of Trade and Industry-10 (DTI-10)
  • Department of Agriculture-10 (DA-10)
  • Philippine Ports Authority – Misamis Oriental

Carlene Collado, DA-10’s Director, emphasized her enthusiasm for the beneficiary program, reportedly pledging to include the 20 agencies attached to the department to its list of benefits for contractual workers, effectively setting a positive example for other government agencies in the area.
