A female green sea turtle, locally known as “pawikan,” was recently discovered stranded and upside down on the shores of Barangay Tango by Erven Glen Labajo, a dedicated member of Bantay Dagat. Weighing 20 kg, the turtle was found to be suffering from buoyancy issues, which prevented it from swimming effectively.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) immediately took over, bringing the turtle to the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) Marine Wildlife Rescue Center in Alabel, Sarangani Province where the turtle will undergo the necessary evaluation and rehabilitation, with the hope of returning it to its natural habitat.

The DENR advises everyone to keep an eye out for distressed marine animals and to report any sightings. Your quick action can make a significant difference in the preservation and protection of these creatures. Remember: a simple report could lead to a life saved. Stay alert, and help us save our turtles!
