Frequent weather changes are often observed during rainy seasons, and these weather shifts bring about more humidity that gives germs and bacteria the opportunity to further thrive. Moreover, a sprinkle or a droplet of rain water can make you sick since it often carries these microorganisms with them, making you catch a cold and cough!

Aside from spreading germs and bacteria, rainy seasons significantly cools the weather that reduces the ability of our air passageways such as the nose to defend against bad microorganisms.

Moreover, the lack of exposure to sun due to frequent rains lessens the ability of our body to produce Vitamin D that is very essential in strengthening our immune system. Lastly, as most activities are done indoors due to rains, a possible close contact with an infected person is more likely to happen.

However, there are ways to mitigate these circumstances to lead you away from suffering these unpleasant infections:

  1. Practice Good Hygiene

To prevent further spread of the bacteria, you must take a bath after going outside. You must also remember to thoroughly clean spaces that are likely to be laced with these microorganisms religiously.

  1. Eat More Healthy Foods

Since our body’s ability to produce Vit. D is reduced leading to a weaker immune system, we must eat foods that are high in carbohydrates, proteins, fats and oil, minerals and vitamins. These foods can help you fight against eventual infections.

  1. Stay Hydrated

Drinking enough water can also help strengthen our immune system. Hence, staying hydrated can also let your body fight against the infection of these bacteria and germs.

  1. Let Infected Persons Close To You

An infected person will definitely infect another person, especially if that person is close to you (literally close to you). Thus, it is important to remember to get them treated before the infection gets to you too.

  1. Lessen Alcohol and Caffeine Intake

Alcohol and caffeine can make you dehydrated since these beverages prompt your body to urinate more, and dehydration significantly weakens your immune system since this can give the possibility for your immune system to malfunction. Thus, stay away from alcoholic drinks and coffee to prevent infection.

— Health is wealth, a healthy body truly is a treasure that needs to be kept. However, as rainy seasons dawn upon us, falling ill is not out of the question. Thus, remember to take care of your body and follow the tips above to prevent yourself from getting a cough or a cold. Stay safe Sugboanon!
