The internet made a lot of noise back in February 2022 due to the story of a hardworking porter, better known locally as kargador, Mark Allen Armenion. He placed second in the Mechanical Engineering Board Exams, impressively juggling his studies and his work. As of today, he works as a teacher at a board exam review center, and is officially a licensed engineer. His intellect in itself is spectacular, but how he defied the odds as a working class citizen is what made a lot of people look up to him.
With his challenging background, it made Armenion stand out among the rest of the thousands of graduates in the board exam. Outside of the competitive field of engineering, he hails from the Warwick Barracks in Carbon in Cebu City. There, he faced a lot of things and had to grow up quickly, having to help his parents in the market leading him to missing classes, and eventually failing 3rd grade and 3rd year high school.
Despite this, Armenion still saw the value of education and how this solves a lot of problems. He pursued his course at University of Cebu – Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue before successfully topping the board exams.
Due to being a transferee and other technicalities, he did not get to earn the Cum Laude honor, however, he focused on excelling in what he knows best and gave all his energy in growing in his chosen field. He eyed on topping the exams after not getting Latin honors, and later on, showed how recognition in college or the lack thereof isn’t definitive of one’s future.
From a market porter to a site engineer, Armenion truly challenged the challenges themselves. Not only does this show his academic prowess, but his adaptability and capability to compartmentalize his life. Now, he gets to impart his knowledge at Alcorcon Engineering Review Center, guiding other aspiring mechanical engineers, including those who might be in the same situation as he was in.
