A 2.5-meter-long saltwater crocodile was caught in Boracay.

Residents of Barangay Yapak in Boracay Island were shocked to find a crocodile close to the shore at around 1:00 pm on July 25, 2024.

The crocodile was first seen in the morning at Sinagpa Beach. Because of this, authorities banned swimming at three spots on the island until they could catch or rescue the crocodile.

The Malay town government said that the Philippine Coast Guard – Boracay, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), lifeguards, volunteers, and also the local residents all helped in the search. They found and rescued the crocodile around 4 p.m. at Diniwid Beach.

The crocodile, which weighed between 50 and 60 kilograms, was taken to the CENRO office in Barangay Napaan, Malay. It was 2.5 meters long and 25.5 centimeters wide.

The authorities believe the crocodile may have been displaced by Typhoon Carina.
