Terrace-tory Goals? Make Alimatoc your next great escape when in Negros.

A scenery where nature meets the eye, tucked away in a rich mountain of the Philippines, lies a breathtaking view of the Alimatoc Rice Terraces. It is one of the underrated but equally stunning counterparts of the famous Banaue Rice Terraces. The place is often viewed or referred to as a “hidden paradise.” Alimatoc offers a serene escape to nature, showcasing the ingenuity of indigenous farming techniques and the beauty of the terrace landscapes.
From Hills To Harvest
Crafted by local farmers over generations, the Alimatoc Rice Terraces are located in the Sitio of Alimatoc, Celestino Villacin, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. Unlike the much more commercialized rice terraces in Ifugao, Alimatoc remains relatively untouched by mass tourism, preserving its authentic charm.

The terraces were carved into the mountains about a century ago by indigenous Igorot farmers using their traditional hand tools. The tiered fields follow the natural contour of the hills, creating a stream effect that blends beautifully with the surroundings. Unlike the farming we have today, Alimatoc still relies on an ancient irrigation system, which continues to channel water from mountain springs, demonstrating a sustainable practice that has been passed down through generations.

Snap, Trek, Chill, Repeat
Visiting the Alimatoc Rice Terraces is a feast for all the senses, as it offers the best time to see it when the paddies are lush and green, or during harvest season when the fields turn golden.

More Than A Grain
The Alimatoc Rice Terraces are not only visually stunning but also represent a living cultural heritage. As it is recognized as part of the Philippine Rice Terraces System, it highlights the sustainable farming techniques of the indigenous community. The terraces reflect centuries-old agricultural wisdom, promoting sustainable tourism that benefits local communities and supports a diverse ecosystem, including native rice varieties and a variety of wildlife. Efforts are made to protect Alimatoc from environmental threats, such as soil erosion and modernization pressures, ensuring that future generations can appreciate and enjoy this cultural treasure.
