Alegria is one of the spots in Cebu known for canyoonering and chasing waterfalls…
We are officially in the middle of the year 2025, but, it’s still never too late to discover new places in Cebu that could fix your adulting burnout. So, if you’re craving for nature that isn’t too touristy but still jaw-droppingly beautiful, Cambais Falls in Alegria, Cebu might just be your next perfect escape.

A 3-Tier Waterfall
Cambais Falls is known for its turquoise waters, shaded jungle paths, and layered cascades. The first level of the falls is calm and wide, perfect for those who are into having a relaxing dip or a quick cold plunge. The second level, which requires a short hike and a bit of climbing (don’t worry, there are ropes), leads you to a taller waterfall that goes into a deeper basin, ideal for thrill-seekers who want to cliff jump or simply marvel at the view. Its third tier? Well, of course it’s higher at 20-feet, and has an even taller waterfall that you can climb and jump off from.

Unlike the more commercialized waterfalls in the south, Cambais Falls still keeps that “hidden gem” energy. The entrance fee is only ₱50, and you get a full experience without the crowds. There are no fancy establishments in the area as well, just raw, untouched nature.

Guarded by Engkantos
Us Filipinos love our local lore and legends, and Cambais Falls did not escape that fate too, as locals believe that Cambais Falls is guarded by spirits or engkanto, especially during full moons or when the weather suddenly shifts. According to many, some say the pool glows in a soft bluish hue at night, almost like it’s alive. There are whispers of people who once disrespected the area and fell ill mysteriously after their visit, believed to be a sign that the falls should be treated with reverence.

There’s also an old tale that the water never dries up, even during long dry spells, which is why elders consider the falls a blessing from the mountain spirits. If you’re superstitious, it’s common courtesy to say “tabi-tabi po” before entering the area or tossing a coin into the water as a peaceful offering. Whether you believe in it or not, it’s always best to approach places like Cambais with respect as it’s part of what keeps its magic alive.
