A 20-year-old robbery suspect was arrested last May 26, 2025, in Cagayan de Oro City, all thanks to the “Find My iPhone” tracking feature used by one of the victims.

A retired 72-year-old judge from Quezon City, who was visiting CDO, was among the victims of a robbery inside a subdivision in the city. The suspects reportedly took two iPhones, a Samsung phone, a wallet, and cash in multiple currencies. But, with the victim’s immediate smart move, he tracked their iPhone using the device’s built-in tracker.
Police followed the location pinged from the app and caught the suspect along Pabayo Street, downtown CDO. Recovered from the suspect were:
- iPhone 12 (₱30,000)
- iPhone 11 (₱20,000)
- Samsung S711 (₱36,000)
- Wallet with ₱3,300, USD, Canadian dollars, and Euro bills
Turns out, the suspect already had a warrant of arrest for theft and is now detained at the Maharlika Detention Cell, awaiting formal robbery charges.

This case is proof that built-in phone trackers like Apple’s “Find My” or Samsung’s “Find My Mobile” are more than just tech gimmicks, they can literally help recover stolen property, or even solve crimes. Keeping them activated, and knowing how to use them, could mean the difference between getting your phone back or losing it for good.
