Bold, defiant, and unapologetically fierce! Filipino drag has long been around, and it is surely here to stay. Contemporary drag in the Philippines is historically rooted in resistance and resilience—from the dispossession of the babaylans’ pre-colonial and spiritual traditions, to the oppression faced by “comfort gays” and crossdressers during foreign occupation.
The lived experiences of our queer foremothers shaped the concept of drag as we know it today. It has since evolved into a captivating art, dazzling audiences with all its extravagant glamor. But beyond just entertaining crowds, Filipino drag queens seek to represent and amplify the voices of the marginalized while expressing their gender and identity with freedom.
Incorporating both their creative talents and the causes they stand for, these artists engage in storytelling that is simultaneously beautiful and socioculturally relevant. This has elevated drag into a powerful art form, one that enjoys a newfound appreciation from audiences in the Philippines and beyond.
Today, drag continues to be redefined and embraced, as drag queens and artists are finally given the platform and momentum to perform to protest, and protest to perform. It’s more than just a performance, it’s power, presence, reclamation and revolution.
This spirit is alive and well in the drag scene of Cebu, where a new era is being born. Meet the Haus of Rena1ssance, the visionary Haus that ignited the new era of Cebu drag.
Kat Phischeur – The Mother of the House “Pres”
The matriarch of Haus of Rena1ssance, Kat Phischeur bleeds Cebu. Her craft is a tribute to local culture, which is woven into every fabric and detail in her work. A proud advocate of VISPOP and OPM, Kat’s artistry uplifts homegrown talent while reenvisioning what it means to be a Cebuana on the drag stage.
Letina Lyccah – “The Showgirl”
High-octane energy, show-stopping looks, and custom-made designs, Letina Lyccah is a powerhouse performer who leaves it all on stage. Whether she’s performing or strutting in pieces she sews herself, Letina doesn’t just bring the show, she is the show.
Georgina Wales – “The Princes of Wales”
Drawing inspiration from all things royal, Georgina Wales is always ready to embody nobility in motion. And her brand? Aristocracy with attitude and edge. She channels regal excellence into every performance, affirming her lineage in drag royalty.
GIRL – “The Unpadded Queen”
Who needs pads when you’ve built the form yourself? Like an Olympian of drag (a la Hidilyn Diaz). GIRL serves us sculpted strength. She is the Haus’ resident storyteller, and an alternative drag queen known for her ability to create rich narratives through her spectacular performances.
Soda Pop – “The Burlesque Queen”
Sensual, fearless, and unforgettable. She is THE ONE. Soda Pop is a masterclass in charisma, confidence, and body. A burlesque icon and fashion-forward diva who dominates the stage with her daring moves, sultry energy, and a style all her own.
Leslie Versace – “The Stunt Queen”
You want stunts? Leslie delivers. With death-defying tricks and moves that defy gravity, she takes the stage by storm. Fearless and untamed, this stunt queen is the daredevil of the Haus, ceaselessly gagging us with every leap, flip, and split.
Ledda Marmalade – “The Performer”
Whether it’s Beyonce’s Super Bowl halftime or the latest dance trends and choreo challenges, you can count on Ledda Marmalade to eat it up. A dance floor dominator with rhythm in her bones and star power in her veins, she keeps the energy alive and the audience hooked.
Akiko Brown – “The Comedy Queen”
Unhinged, unfiltered, and unbelievably funny, Akiko Brown knows how to steal the spotlight and your breath (from laughter). With drag as her bread and butter, she never fails to serve camp and chaos, and make the whole room cackle, every single time.
Neonique – “The Neon Cosmic Diva”
Haus of Rena1ssance’s newest addition. Neonique is a force of nature with intergalactic looks and an otherworldly skill in designing her clothes; each outfit setting the stage for the story she tells. She is a rising star shining in her own cosmic lane, and it’s time you noticed.
This year, ACT V: REVEL marked a milestone for the Haus of Rena1ssance as they celebrated their second anniversary drag concert, which was held on May 3, 2025. More than just a celebration, it was a declaration that boldly tributed the roots, identity, and spirit of Cebuano drag.
In their second year, the HoR not only deepened their bond as a chosen family but also honored the very soil that shaped them.
Cebu’s local drag scene is vividly glowing with raw talent and artistry, and these 9 queens are proof of that; serving face, fashion, and snatching tens, tens, tens across the board.
The new era of Cebu drag is here. And it’s loud, proud, and Rena1ssance-made.
