The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has introduced Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations, or Starbooks, to upland communities in Bontoc, Southern Leyte. These digital kiosks provide science-based learning resources to areas with limited access to the Internet.

Starbooks units were handed over to Olisihan and Pamigsian villages in partnership with the local government. The project included demonstrations on how to use the kiosks, highlighting their potential as educational tools for students, teachers, and lifelong learners.

The initiative aims to strengthen human resource development by making vital learning materials available to remote communities. Starbooks offer offline access to thousands of science, technology, and innovation resources, supporting education even without stable connectivity.
