Some of the most endangered species in the Philippines can be found in the Bayawan Nature Reserve, which is located in the lush forests of Barangay Nangka, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental. The Talarak Foundation works with the Bayawan City Government to preserve this secondary lowland forest which covers an area of about 300 hectares.

A Sanctuary For Endangered Species

The reserve plays a pivotal role in the conservation of the critically endangered Visayan warty pig among other species. Since 2020, 22 Visayan warty pigs and 39 Visayan spotted deer have been reintroduced into the reserve with reports of successful births in the wild indicating positive adaptation.
Ecological Research and Education

Beyond conservation, the reserve serves as a hub for ecological research and environmental education. Collaborations with various organizations aim to study the behavior and habitat preferences of native species ensuring informed conservation strategies for the future.
