Located at the foot of Pedro Colina Hill in Cotabato City, the Kutawato Caves which are also known as Kutang Bato Cave is one of the region’s rich geological and historical heritage. This limestone cave system is unique as it is the only cave situated within the heart of a city in the Philippines.
The name “Kutawato” is derived from the Maguindanao words “kuta” which means fort and “wato” which means stone. Together, the words mean “fort of stone” which later evolved into the city’s name, Cotabato.
