The highest peak in the Philippines, Mt. Apo was temporarily closed its trails from June to August 2025 for its annual rehabilitation and preservation efforts. This closure is part of a longstanding initiative to protect the mountain’s delicate ecosystem and biodiversity.

Why Was Mt. Apo Closed?

The annual closure coincides with the mating season of Mt. Apo’s diverse fauna that allows the mountain to rejuvenate and recover naturally. This crucial conservation effort ensures the protection of its rich biodiversity and delicate ecosystem helping preserve the natural wonders of Mt. Apo for generations to come. 

When Will It Reopen?

Mt. Apo reopened its trails to trekkers last September 1, 2025. Adventurers planning to visit are encouraged to prepare accordingly and respect the park’s regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

How To Get There?

Location: Located between Davao City, the province of Davao del Sur, and the provinces of North Cotabato

  • By Car: From Davao City, drive along the Davao-Cotabato Highway toward Kidapawan. Upon reaching the jump off point for your chosen trail such as the Kidapawan Trail or Bansalan Trail, park your vehicle at the designated parking area. From there, registered guides lead hikers along the established trails to Mt. Apo’s summit. The drive from Davao City to Kidapawan usually takes around 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.
  • By Commute: From Davao City, take a bus or van bound for Kidapawan at the Ecoland Bus Terminal or nearby bus stations. Upon arrival in Kidapawan, take a habal-habal or van to the trailhead of your chosen Mt. Apo jump off point. It’s recommended to coordinate with local guides in advance as all climbers must register and secure permits before starting the hike. Travel time from Davao City to the trailheads can range from 4 to 5 hours.
