There’s a little more breathing room for households in Negros Occidental this month, electricity rates are down across the board. Thanks to lower market prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), all three major power distributors in the province have slashed their residential rates for May.
Northern Negros (NONECO): Rates Down by ₱1.78/kWh
Areas Served: From E.B. Magalona to San Carlos City
The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) has brought down its rate by ₱1.7807/kWh, from ₱15.07 in April to ₱13.28/kWh this May.
The drop is mainly due to:
- Lower WESM charges
- Fuel price adjustments
- Foreign exchange fluctuations
Central Negros (Negros Power): ₱0.66/kWh Lower
Areas Served: Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, Silay, and the towns of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto
Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) also gave consumers a break with a ₱0.66/kWh decrease, adjusting from ₱12.35 to ₱11.69/kWh.
- WESM price dropped significantly — from ₱6.68 to ₱5.42/kWh
- Plus, Palm Concepcion Power Corp., their supplier, shaved off an additional ₱0.20/kWh
Southern Negros (NOCECO): Biggest Drop at ₱3.58/kWh
Areas Served: From Pulupandan all the way to Hinoba-an
Meanwhile, NOCECO (Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative) customers got the most significant cut, a whopping ₱3.58/kWh decrease, bringing rates from ₱15.61 down to ₱12.02/kWh.
According to NOCECO, the steep drop is thanks to a lower generation charge, which came from cheaper power prices at WESM.
If you live anywhere in Negros Occidental, expect to see a smaller number on your electricity bill this month. With fuel costs and WESM prices going down, even temporary relief like this is a big win for families and small businesses trying to keep expenses in check.
