The shores of R.T. Lim Boulevard lit up in vibrant hues as hundreds of vintas sailed in the annual Regatta de Zamboanga drawing locals and tourists alike. The event has become one of the most anticipated highlights of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. It’s a beautiful blend of culture, community, and maritime heritage.

A Sea of Vintas and Tradition

This year, about 235 colorful vintas took to the waters along R.T. Lim Boulevard, each representing coastal barangays around Zamboanga. The vinta which is a traditional outrigger boat native to Mindanao is often decorated with striking rectangular sails in bright colors symbolizing the rich maritime culture of the region.

Celebration Beyond the Race

More than just a racing spectacle, the regatta is a cultural showcase. The event is part of the city’s Hermosa Festival, weaving in music, local food, and community gatherings to celebrate Zamboanga’s identity. Officials such as Mayor Khymer Olaso and dignitaries join the festivities emphasizing that the regatta is not only a contest but a tribute to heritage and unity.
The Regatta de Zamboanga proves that sails can speak louder than words, it’s telling stories of sea, identity, and togetherness. Amid the colorful spectacle, the city remembers its roots and invites everyone to be part of its heritage. For a moment, time slows and all eyes turn to sails dancing on the waves.
