“Spider-Man would be very happy to hear this”
Spiders may give us nightmares about their appearances, and other people are using them for illegal gambling. But spiders bring balance by controlling the insect population. Let us appreciate those people who care for the spiders.
Spider-Men of the Sarangani Province
Recently, the DENR of the Province of Sarangani released fourteen wild spiders locally known as “damang.” The spiders were rescued by the local police during the routine against the anti-illegal gambling operation, and then it was released back into their natural habitat on February 20, 2025. Spider-Man salutes your dedication to saving the species.
The Assessment of these Little Critters
The Glan’s Municipal Police Station handed the rescued spiders to the DENR to properly handle them and assess the spider’s health, thankfully, the spiders are in good condition and released safely back to the grassland and to thrive. The spiders were identified that it belongs to two species of spiders with the genus 𝘕𝘦𝘰𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘢: 𝘕𝘦𝘰𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘕𝘦𝘰𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘢.
This goes to show that the government shows commitment to enforcing the environmental laws that ensure the wildlife is safe against illegal practices and activities.
