Magpupungko Rock Pools are a series of natural pools carved into rugged limestone along Siargao’s eastern coast. Revealed only during low tide, these crystal-clear basins range from shallow lagoons to deep swimming holes, framed by dramatic rock formations and the open Pacific beyond. It’s one of those places that feels raw, wild, and unmistakably Siargao.

What Makes It Special

At the heart of the main pool sits a massive rock that doubles as a cliff-jumping spot for thrill-seekers. Around it, smaller nooks and crannies invite exploration, floating, and relaxed swims. The constant movement of people jumping, swimming, and discovering hidden corners gives Magpupungko its lively, almost festival-like energy on a good day.

Low Tide Is Non-Negotiable

Timing is everything at Magpupungko. The rock pools are safest and most beautiful during low tide, when the ocean pulls back to reveal calm, swimmable water. During high tide, waves crash directly over the rocks, making swimming dangerous. Interestingly, the adjacent beach is better enjoyed at high tide, when more sand is covered with water and the shoreline looks smoother.

The Beach and Surroundings

Next to the pools is a rocky beach that’s worth a stroll, especially for photos. The area has been developed for tourism, with parking areas, small restaurants, and snack stalls lining the coast. After swimming, it’s easy to grab fresh coconut juice or a quick meal before heading onward.
