The main route stretches roughly 17 kilometers round trip with a steep elevation gain of more than 1,600 meters. Assaults are long and exposed, with sections near ridges and edges that require focus and steady footing. This mountain is best suited for experienced hikers who can handle extended climbs and limited shade.

Named After Wild Berries

Mount Oten got its name from the wild berry shrubs called “oten” that grow around the summit and nearby slopes. These berries are known among locals and can sometimes be found along the trail. Pine trees line parts of the ridges, adding texture to the landscape despite visible patches affected by past fires or kaingin.

Views Worth the Climb

At the summit, hikers are greeted with sweeping views of the Cordillera mountain range when the clouds clear. Rolling peaks stretch in every direction, creating a dramatic backdrop for photos and quiet moments. On good days, the sea of clouds turns the summit into a soft white horizon.

What To Do at Mount Oten

  • Hike to the summit for panoramic Cordillera views
  • Take photos along pine ridges and rocky viewpoints

Mount Oten is open year-round, but early morning climbs are ideal for clearer skies and cooler weather.
