Miagao is home to the majestic Miagao Church, officially the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. This 18th-century fortress church, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcases Baroque architecture fused with local artistry. Its thick walls and intricate facade were built to protect townsfolk from invaders, making it more than just a place of worship, it’s a symbol of resilience. Visitors can marvel at its stone carvings depicting local flora, fauna, and folklore, offering a glimpse into the cultural heartbeat of Iloilo.

Rice Terraces Misconception

While Miagao offers stunning heritage sites, the famous Philippine rice terraces are not here. Those iconic mountain-carved terraces belong to Ifugao, in northern Luzon, particularly Banaue, Batad, and Hapao. Visitors seeking terraced landscapes should plan a separate trip north for that experience.
