Filipino centenarians are getting recognized and celebrated which is what they do deserve. Centenarians are individual that has reached the ripe age of 100.

Getting to a 100 during these times of chaos, pandemic and problem filled life is an achievement indeed and Lola Pelagia of Bayawan City just celebrated her 100th birthday.

Happy 100th birthday, Lola Pelagia!

Lola Pelagia Mariano Docto is a resident of Barangay Villareal, Bayawan City, located about 100 kilometres from Dumaguete.

Under RA 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016,” senior citizens who reach the age of 100 are entitled to cash incentives from the government.

Lola Pelagia have received a P50,000 cash incentive from the local government of Bayawan City. The check was given to her directly by the City Treasurer’s Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022.

Aside from this, she will also receive another P100,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 7. She will have a total of P150,000 which is a very big help for lola already.

She is the first centenarian for 2022 in Bayawan City but she sure isn’t alone as there are 15 others who have made it to a 100 in the city. Thus, making Lola Pelagia, the 16th centenarian

The places we live in do have effects on how long we live and Bayawan City has been recognized as “one of the Top 10 Best Cities to Live In, in the Philippines (Small Cities Category)”, by the Asian Institute of Management under its Competitive Cities Survey 2007.
