An arboretum in Negros Oriental was just established.
An arboretum by definition is a botanical collection composed exclusively or most of a variety of tree species.
Located at the Christian institution’s field laboratory grounds in Barangay Palinpinon, Valencia town, this arboretum in Negros Oriental is dubbed as “BINHI”.
Composed exclusively of a variety of tree species, this project is in partnership of a geothermal power firm, Energy Development Corporation (EDC) and Silliman University (SU).
Just recently, they planted 100 endangered native tree species jump starting the project and aiming to support this safe haven for the long-term survival of Philippine native trees.

The BINHI arboretum is just one of the many initiatives of Silliman University to protect the environment. SU also remains as the only university on Negros Island to be 100% powered by renewable energy (RE).
Including this EDC-SU arboretum, there are now 23 arboreta and 163 tree parks that have been established together with its almost 200 BINHI partners by EDC.
