Gaus Island: Remote and Secluded Island Vibes in Bohol

If one talks about Bohol, the most common thing that first comes to mind is the Chocolate Hills. While they are indeed a majestic spectacle to behold, there are also other things that Bohol has that can amaze and surprise you. Did you know that the province has 75 islands and islets? Many of them are worth visiting and there is one that is unknown to many but fun to experience?

That island is Gaus Island, located in the municipality of President Carlos P. Garcia. The municipality itself has a rather interesting history, with it containing several islands and being named after the late 8^th President of the Philippines. Gaus Island is not well-known to a lot of people, but actually is rich in marine life and hospitable people.

The place is not really comercialized and is not frequented by tourists as much even though it has a lot of potential. It is said that during the 3^rd of May every year, the inhabitants of the island celebrate a fluvial parade in honor of their patron saint, Santa Cruz. People from far away places with origins of the island even go back to celebrate the occassion. Thus, it can be a good time to visit.

HOW TO GET THERE?

Exact location: Gaus Island, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol

BY AIR/BUS: If you are from outside Bohol, you can book a flight for Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Go to the Dao Terminal within the city near Island City Mall. Look for a shuttle van or a bus bound for Jagna. Inform the drive that you are headed for the town of Ubay; it takes 3 to 4 hours to arrive. Once there, inquire about seaports going to Gaus Island.

BY CAR: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Ubay, Bohol”. Once there, inquire about seaports going to Gaus Island.
