On September 7, 2021, a seaman who was lucky enough to be given the chance to set foot on the Geographic North Pole.
The voyage of the French icebreaking cruise ship Le Commandant Charcot started on September 1 in Longyearbyen, Norway. It took them a week to finally reach the North Pole, which the lucky Dumagueteño seaman did not fail to document the feat.
Mobie Jan Bokingkito, a quartermaster of the cruise ship, documented such momentous event to have set foot on the place where Earth’s axis of rotation meets its surface.
“Emotional kaayo ko. Feeling blessed talaga. Mura ko’g kahilakon sa kalipay,” Bokingkito told Yes The Best 106.3 in an online interview.
According to a Twitter post by Compagnie du Ponant, the owner of the cruise ship, they were the first ship which is powered by liquified petroleum gas (LPG) to have reached the North Pole.
