What makes Negros’ tourism scene famous is its mountainous landscape, a gold mine of rich and beautiful tourist spots aside from their famous sugarcane that is featured all over. One of them is Balaan Hills which features an elongated and slightly curved landscape with stairs for tourists’ comfort with its uphill area and elevated scale.
After going through a long and windy ride with sugar cane on its side, you will pass the Twin River and meet Murcia-Bago Boundary via a small bridge. You will then arrive at Mailum, Bago, which features vast green fields on the side and enter Balaan Hills.
Balaan Hills: In Pilgrimage with Christ and Nature
From its name, “Balaan,” meaning “Holy”, features a 4-hectare sanctuary of holy pilgrimage that will warmly welcome you featuring Christ’s station of cross – Jesus Christ’s story from his birth in the living realm up until his resurrection and ascending in heaven to save humankind from the perils of sin.
This pilgrimage radiates serenity at its finest. Its quiet place is perfect for its solemnity and soliloquy. It also features a Divine Mercy Monument and a souvenir shop where tourists can shop for religious relics.
An hour away from Bacolod, this place is not only perfect for devotees but also for all people from all walks of life.
It has a multi-layered pool with a cascade of water on its side and is situated in the middle of long trees. Below, it has a slated infinity pool perfect to take the tiredness away from your body after a long trip and ride.
You can enjoy the elevated view of Balaan Hills as you take a dip — taking relaxation to the next level.
Feeding the mind, soul, and stomach
Lastly, what completes this place’s total package is its food. Balaan Hills also has its restaurant, La Bouna Cucina – which features an international-trained chef from Singapore, Chef Leo Nikko Napagao Delfinado. They serve global cuisine.
They have an outdoor dining area above the allotted parking space where you can view the hills and rice terraces aside from the separate deck viewing area. It is patio-like and full of greens with ornate metal chairs and tables, that have umbrellas.
