A Rich Biodiversity that Inhabits the Tropical Rainforest Island of Samar

You will be surprised by the abundance of exotic animals where spectators see an unusual selling of these animals. Half of the island is covered by lush tropical forests containing exotic species of flora and fauna.

Home to the icon of tropical rainforests – the primates like macaque monkeys, and Chievous monkeys. It includes rare and colorful birds, civet cats, and monitor lizards. Since it is a tropical rainforest island, it is no wonder it is home to high biodiversity.

Aside from its unique terrestrial animals, it is also abundant in aquatic animals. The wetlands of the northern tip of this island are teeming with fish such as tuna, marlin, swordfish, and mahi-mahi that are regularly caught. Shrimp and crabs are included on the list. The surrounding waters are home to several marine-based industries.

Out of this World Rock Formations

It is a tempting place for rock climbers with its unique rock formations. It features alien abstracts that are best for camera buffs. They also have limestone cliffs that rock climbers will be surely drawn.

In the cliffside margin of the forest, dozens of caves can be found. Caves are described as cathedral-like. Lastly, what’s unique in this place is that Stalactites usually found in caves aren’t restricted from there – it stretches to the shoreline of Calicoan Island.

Calicoan Island: The Next Surfing Capital of the Philippines

Being renowned as the “Jewel Pacific of the Coast”, it is an esteemed paradise with white sand beaches and rocky bottoms. You can enjoy a lot of activities in this area, among them, are water sports. Ideal for those who love snorkeling since it is home to beautiful marine sanctuaries.

 HOW TO GET THERE?

Exact location: Calicoan Island, Guiuan Philippines

AIRPLANE: You can book a flight to Tacloban via Philippine Airlines, Air Asia, or Cebu Pacific. The flight will last for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. For their rates, please check their site.

JEEPNEY: Upon arrival in Tacloban City, you can take a Jeepney to go to the Tacloban terminal. It will cost around P30 for Jeepney and P100 – P200 for a Taxi from Airport to the Terminal or Vans Terminal.

VAN: There are a lot of Vans terminals located in Tacloban downtown. Van going to Guiuan depart almost every 30 mins. The fare will cost around P160.
