Maria Deanna Izabella Alvizo Wong, better known as Deanna Wong, is a Cebuana volleyball player who rose to prominence for her setting abilities.
In elementary school, she attended Saint Theresa’s College in Cebu, and in high school, she attended the University of San Jose-Recoletos. When her career took off, she went to the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) to study AB Interdisciplinary Studies.
She was selected for the ADMU’s collegiate varsity senior women’s volleyball team in March 2015, and she played her freshman year in 2016. She began her career as a libero in the UAAP Season 79 and transitioned to setter in the UAAP Season 80, when she was named Best Setter.
Because of her performance in the UAAP, Wong was selected to play in the Premier Volleyball League for Choco Mucho, among other teams, where she had a fantastic tenure. As a result, she became well-known. Wong has carved quite a name for herself in the industry, amassing 1.2 million Instagram followers alone.
During her games, her admirers would swarm the venue, ensuring that this legendary Cebuana setter was aware of their presence. On Twitter, a call to protect Deanna and her family’s privacy has recently gained traction. This occurred when her followers camped out at their Cebu mansion.
During Holy Week, Deanna Wong returned home to spend time with her family. During Good Friday, however, her fans flocked to their home in Minglanilla, Cebu. Judin Alvizo-Wong, Wong’s mother, posted a video on her Facebook account showing how excited the fans were awaiting the star setter to arrive.
Despite the breach of their privacy, Deanna made a point of waving to her supporters, as shown in the video.
“How will we be able to attend to church with so many people gathered outside our gate?” Some even arrived from Mindanao and other Visayas provinces. Some had arrived as early as six a.m.,”she wrote in Cebuano, accompanied by a sorrowful emoji.
