Dive into a world of vibrant stories, creative interpretations, and thought-provoking discussions at the 18th Tanghal in Visayas: a National University and Community-Based Theater Festival!
Get ready for a three-day celebration of talent and creativity as the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the National Committee on Dramatic Arts join forces with universities and theater groups across the Visayas region! Known as the National University and Community-Based Theater Festival, this event is a platform for thespians to come together and explore pressing issues like climate change and technological advancements through the lens of theater.
Guang Ming College (GMC) Cebu, one of the prime schools for theater and performing arts programs, hosts the festival’s day-to-day events. The celebration commenced yesterday, March 18, 2024, with opening heartfelt performances from Guang Ming College – Tagaytay and the University of the Philippines – Cebu.
Wrapping up the first day with a burst of creativity, the talented artists of InITIate PH/D’Salag Collective and YATTA took the spotlight with their performances based on current events. In an engaging presentation of the effects of artificial intelligence, InITIate PH/D’Salag Collective left audiences thinking about the dual nature of AI—a blessing or a curse? Meanwhile, YATTA stirred the audience’s conscience with a short musical play at the Siddhartha Theater, advocating for Negros Oriental’s Okoy River urgent environmental action.
To reach further, the festival also goes beyond the gates of GMC for Day 2 to encourage the youth and future thespians of Cebu. The Kanlaon Theater Guild will visit two schools: Mandaue City School for the Arts and Don Vicente Rama National High School.
There will also be performances and participation from the following groups before the Fellowship Night of Day 2:
1. Siddhartha Theater Ensemble
2. Artista Silimaniana
3. Teatro Tayo
4. Teatro Biliran
