When you’re not officially dating someone but you cuddle and spend nights together, you’re likely in a situationship.

In today’s dating world, Gen Z’s have this term called “situationship” which is not quite a relationship but more than a friendship. It’s a kind of undefined connection where you might be close to someone but there’s no official label or commitment.

Imagine liking someone and spending a lot of time with them. You might do things couples do, like talk about personal stuff, go on coffee dates, and even be more physical. But unlike a relationship, there is no clear agreement or promise about where things are going.

Why do GEN Z’s love being in situationships?

Being in a situationship can be comforting because you have someone to share things with and feel close to. But, it can also be confusing because you’re not sure if the other person wants the same level of closeness or it will become more serious.

From Gen Z perspective

If you find yourself in a situationship, it’s important to communicate openly with the other person about what you both want. Sometimes, these kinds of connections can evolve into something more committed. They might stay as they are or fade out naturally; it can be enjoyable but also challenging because of the lack of boundaries. You need to be honest with yourself and your feelings, and to understand that not every connection needs a label.

What matters the most is that both people feel respected and understood in whatever kind of relation you have.
