Binaki is a sweet steamed corn cake from Bukidnon and also known as Pintos in Bogo City, Cebu made from freshly grated corn kernels with milk, sugar, and a bit of flour to bind it together. The mixture is carefully spooned into softened corn husks that are folded into neat packets and steamed until it is fluffy and fragrant. This traditional method not only locks in the natural sweetness of the corn but also gives Binaki its signature rustic charm and comforting flavor.

Cultural Significance

Because of the frog-like shape formed when the corn husk is folded around the mixture, the term “Binaki” may have originated from the Bisaya word “baki” which means frog. Although Binaki is mostly consumed as a delicacy, its preparation and consumption are frequently a part of local festivals and cultural events like the Pintos Festival held yearly in the city of Bogo, Cebu. In addition to giving tourists a chance to experience traditional Filipino hospitality, these activities highlight the region’s rich agricultural legacy.
