In 2013, the Filipino Cave Divers (FCD) embarked on an expedition to map and explore the underwater passages of Pamutuanan Cave. Their efforts led to the discovery of over 450 meters of new passageways that include challenging features like “The Chimney” and “The Corkscrew.”

How To Get There?
Location: Lianga, Surigao del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines
- By Car: From Butuan City, drive south along the Maharlika Highway toward Lianga, Surigao del Sur. The trip takes about 4 to 5 hours. Once in Lianga town proper, head inland to Barangay Lianga where the cave is located. Roads may become rough as you get closer so it’s advised to ask locals for the best route to the cave’s jump off point.
- By Commute: From Butuan City, take a bus bound for Lianga or Bislig. Bachelor Express goes this route. Travel time is around 4 to 5 hours. Upon reaching Lianga town proper, ride a habal-habal to take you to Barangay Lianga and directly to the cave area. If it’s your first time visiting, it’s best to ask locals in the area for guidance.
