South Korea to fund for Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge

It is not only K-drama and K-pop that connect us to South Korea. We are also partners in building a more progressive Philippines as seen on the yet-to-be-constructed longest bridge in Region 6.

The Republic of Korea will financially support the conduct of engineering services for the Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) Bridge, an inter-island bridges project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Western Visayas.

This future path will be the fastest way by land to cross Iloilo, Guimaras, and Bacolod and will surely be good for each place’s commerce and tourism.

Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) Bridge

This 32-kilometer bridge has two (2) components:

• Section A (Panay-Guimaras)
• 13 kilometers in length which consists a sea-crossing bridge length of 4.97 kilometers
• Section B (Guimaras-Negros)
•  19.47 kilometers in length which consists a sea-crossing bridge length of 13.11 kilometers

SK Development Assistance Timeline

• August 2021 – Approval of the supplementary feasibility study report and engineering service provision by the NEDA Board’s Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee in.
• October 28, 2021- The discussion for the financial support on engineering services was signed by DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Management Office Operations (UPMO) Emil K. Sadain and Country Director Jae-jeong Moon from Manila Representative Office of the Korea Export-Import (KEXIM) Bank.
• December 2021 – Formal signing ceremony of the official development assistance (ODA) loan to the Philippines through the KEXIM Bank – Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF)

KEXIM Bank-EDCF Civil works presently being supported:

• Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Measures (IDRR-CCA) in Low-Lying Areas of Pampanga
• Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project connecting the Pacific towns in Northern and Eastern Samar
• Panguil Bay Bridge connecting Tangub, Misamis Occidental and Tubod, Lanao Del Norte
