The Velasco siblings — Franz, Fern, and Ferren — from Pangasinan’s capital city proved that being raised by a single parent does not prevent students from achieving academic excellence and even topping their individual board exams.
Last April 2022, Franz Fernand Velasco, the youngest of the three siblings, placed second and fourth, respectively, on the electronics technician (ET) and electronics engineer (EE) licensure board exams.
He received an ET rating of 93.00 percent and an EE rating of 89.20 percent.
Meanwhile, his elder brother Fern Adriel Velasco received a 91.14 percent on the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) board examination in 2015.
On the other hand, the youngest of the siblings Ferren Velasco had an 89.3 percent average, putting her in eighth place on the 2018 Electronics Communications Engineering licensing test.
The siblings were all awarded scholarships from their respective institutions as well as other government organizations, and they all graduated with honors from the same Dagupan City academic institution.
Following the change of Colegio de Dagupan to Universidad de Dagupan in March of this year, Franz is now acknowledged as the university’s first topnotcher.
Franz stated that he is still looking for work, despite the fact that he has had offers from several firms.
Fern is currently employed in a financial firm in Taguig City, while Ferren is a teacher at the Pangasinan National High School.
