The river is frequented by residents to take a bath, wash their clothes, fish, or simply enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of Okoy River. Sunrises and sunsets are truly majestic here as most residents would claim, attributing the Okoy River’s natural beauty as a scenic backdrop for these phenomena.
The river is also surrounded by flora and fauna, where trees serve as backdrop of the river. If one would explore around the river channel, one could see various critters and insects. Native plants are also found throughout the area.
The Okoy River’s natural location is also a gateway to one of the most beautiful falls in Valencia which is the Matin-aw Falls. Upon reaching the river channel, one can follow the upstream of the river and from there, the Matin-aw Falls can be located.
While the Okoy River is appreciated for its natural beauty, residents are also wary of the said river during rainy and typhoon season. High levels of flood occur in Okoy River during rainy season and residents nearby are always reminded to evacuate if necessary.

HOW TO GET THERE?
Exact location: Brgy. Malaunay, Valencia, Negros Oriental, Philippines
BY BUS: Starting from Cebu, you can take a bus from the Cebu South Bus Terminal going to Dumaguete.
Once you’re in Dumaguete City, specifically in the public market, you can hire tricycles that can take you to Okoy River. The river is public so it is likely that drivers already know the place. Take note too that they may only take you to the road where the river is nearby, and you still have to walk a couple of meters to get to Okoy River.
BY CAR: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Okoy River” in Valencia, Negros Oriental. Parking space is available.
