Aklan has another great tourist spot to offer. You can get to enjoy the majestic and breathtaking view of the renowned long coastal line of Boracay Beach while supporting eco-tourism and sustainability at the same time which would give you added joy of what used to be just a simple trip, giving hope to a small community situated and perched on the foothills of Northern Aklan.
On your next visit to Aklan, drop by the Nabas Wind Farm, the next Ilocos Norte of Western Visayas.
You can visit this place if you want to be far away from the place and people you used to know, and the distractions that daily life brings since this place is a remote area.
It is a modern deck view witnessing what made Boracay to be recognized and loved internationally. Upon a long walk on the terrains of the mountains of Northern Aklan, you get to collect your thoughts.
Be blown by the strong winds that Pawa brings, and go along the melody the turbines are spinning. You can make this place a morning side trip or beach bumming.
Not Just a Tourist Spot, Tourist Spot but with a Greater Purpose
Nabas Wind Farm is an eco-tourism project built last 2015 by PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI). It didn’t only provide another tourist spot you can add to your list when visiting Aklan but also provides renewable energy for what used to be a community living in the dark. It also generated job opportunities and livelihood for residents.
It is situated in Barangay Pawa, Aklan, 25 kilometers away from Boracay Beach. It used to be inaccessible but with the help of PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI), a road project was built between 2014-2015 that turned on the vibrancy of the community and is now visited by tourists. Before it was built, there was no electricity.
It is specifically difficult for children who are still going to school as they used to study their lessons using a gas lamp or “Gasera” in the evening. The government used to have a hard time accessing the area with medical services, including water.
The nearest spring is more than a kilometer away from residential areas. Now, Nabas Wind Farm lighted up the whole community. It has brought economic gains and increased the tourism potential of Aklan.
