The sector of tourism in the Philippines is something the country heavily prides itself with. Not only does it greatly help the economy, but it is also a big part of our national identity.
Urban areas already flourish so much because of how development is concentrated there. In rural areas where most of the unseen beauty of the country is located, access may be a problem, which ultimately cuts opportunities short both in the macroscale, and the livelihoods of locals.
With that being said, the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Caraga Region (DPWH-13) has recently announced the completion of a significant ₱7.5 million access road connecting various tourist hotspots in Cagdianao town, Dinagat Islands.
The road project is a multi-year program that was initiated in 2019. Such an effort was allocated with a budget of ₱262 million. This aims to improve the accessibility to potential tourist spots in Barangays Nueva Strella, Hinabyan, and Del Pilar.
This is designed under the 2023 Infrastructure program of the Dinagat Islands District Engineering Office (DIDEO). The concrete excellence is 140-meter road that is accompanied with slope protection structures and an efficient drainage system.
Dinagat Islands has been eyed on to be developed, with the DPWH-13 allocating ₱42.5 million for several projects in the area as of last year. The tourism access road is the latest accomplishment in their planned projects.
The development of Dinagat Islands extends beyond the tourism access road. In fact, it’s only part of a series of strategic initiatives, to be followed by a 3.3 kilometer road project and the construction of a 70-meter bridge, with the latter having a ₱5 million budget.
