Heads up, future senior high students!
The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Thursday its plans to simplify the senior high school (SHS) curriculum to enhance students’ employability.
By cutting down the number of subjects students need to focus on and pass, they will have more time for hands-on training, which is essential for job readiness, according to Education Secretary Sonny Angara.
The new proposed educational plan suggests reducing the subjects to about 5 or 6 instead of the current 15. While the new K-10 curriculum, aimed at improving literacy and math skills, is being gradually implemented until 2028, the senior high school curriculum is also being updated.
The revision process involves collaboration with consultants from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), who are providing technical support and expertise. Discussions during the meeting focused on refining the SHS curriculum, especially in subjects like English, Science, and Math.
Previously, under Vice President Sara Duterte’s leadership, DepEd aimed to implement the revised SHS curriculum by 2025.
