“And if the world is ending, I wanna be next to you.”
There are a lot of speculations about the prediction of the end of times, from poetry to astronomy. Here are the times when we thought that the world was supposed to end and might end:
The Seer
In the 16th century, the famous French astrologer and seer Nostradamus wrote a book titled “Les Propheties” or “The Prophecy” in English translation. Nostradamus is said to have written 942 pieces that were said to predict the future, and his works have fascinated people for centuries due to the cryptic nature of the messages and allegedly accurate predictions of events. Nostradamus had predicted some events.
- The Great Fire of London – “The blood of the just will be demanded of London, Burnt by fire in the year ’66.”
- The Rise of Napoleon – “An emperor will be born near Italy. He will cost his Empire very dearly.”
- The Rise of Hitler – “From the depths of the West of Europe, A young child will be born of poor people, He who by his tongue will seduce a great troop; His fame will increase towards the realm of the East.”
- World War II – “The two greatest ones of Asia and Africa shall be found to be of high alleys.”
- 9/11 Attack – “The sky will burn at forty-five degrees, Fire approaches the great new city.”
Was Nostradamus predicted the future, or was it just a coincidence? Many people were fascinated by Nostradamus’ prediction, other people still believed that it was just a coincidence, and other people were very skeptical about it. However, scholars often argue that it depends on how you understand and interpret Nostradamus’ cryptic poem.
2012
Will the Simpsons prediction be on the list? Well, the show has a lot of predictions that happened, but I am sorry it is not going on the list. 2012 is not the actual movie but the actual year and it was said that when the Mayan Calendar would end in the year 2012 but people might have misinterpreted it. They believed that when the Mayan calendar ended on December 21 2012 which was regarded as the end date of the 5,126-year-long cycle in the MESOAMERICAN it was believed to be a cataclysmic or apocalyptic event. On the other hand, they believed that the world ended in 2012 and we are just only reliving the moments, well how crazy is that?
“CHONA MAE!” Wait, Did I Hear That Right?
“Chona Mae! Asa ka! Chona Mae!” After the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu people then again panicked that another calamity would happen. People ran for safety which caused widespread panic and others evacuated to higher ground to avoid the rumored tsunami. People misheard it and thought it was a tsunami but it was just a person calling to find her or his child. After the panic authorities then responded and reassured the people that it was just a false alarm. This panic can be compared to the story of the boy who cried wolf, “Chona Mae!”
COVID-19 Pandemic
The pandemic affects millions of people worldwide. It was introduced as the Novel Coronavirus simply known as COVID-19, the virus originated in China and quickly spread to the world in 2020. The WHO or the World Health Organization declared an international health emergency. The COVID Era was compared to an apocalyptic scene where no person can be seen on the streets and a lot of ambulance sirens were heard every minute. Bill Gates also predicted and warned about a potential global pandemic in 2015 in his TED Talk where he pointed out that there would be a lack of preparedness. Recently Bill Gates predicted another pandemic roughly four years from now, he said “And it’d be nice to think we’re more ready for than we were last time. But so far we’re not.”

Nobody knows when the end of times will arrive and it remains a prediction and speculation. But some people believe in theories and religious prophecies.
