Swimming in River Streams

The area around Sabanganan features a river stream access, where you can enjoy playing in the water and cool off from the heat. After a hike to your camping site, you can cool off in the cold streams of water that feel like natural pools. The water is clear and cold, making it a better way to beat the heat, especially during the dry season.

Get up early to enjoy and appreciate the breathtaking view of the sunrise, with a sea of clouds that lights up the mountain ranges and the pine groves. If you’re staying overnight or hiking early before sunrise, take in the morning glow. In the afternoon, the sunset paints the sky beautifully, with calm winds and hues of orange and pink creating an unforgettable experience and perfect moments for photography.

One of the best parts of Sabangan is its simplicity. Where the signal connection is limited and no commercial establishments, it is a perfect natural escape for anyone. If you want to unplag yourself from the everyday distractions, reflect quietly, read a book by the campfire, or just simply enjoy the natural rustling of trees and bird chirping.

How To Get There?

Location: Brgy. Can-Ayan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon

By Car: Start your journey at Malaybalay City. From Malaybalay proper, follow the mountain road to Barangay Can-ayan. The route offers stunning views, but it has some rough sections on the road, so SUVs and motorcycles are recommended. Park at the Can-ayan barangay hall, where you will register and can arrange a local guide if needed.

By Commute: For an authentic Bukidnon experience, begin your trail at Malaybalay Terminal. First, take a tricycle to Amadeo Steak House (₱15-20). From there, hop on a habal-habal (Motorcycle Taxi) for a ride to Can-ayan and go to the Sabangan Trail starting point. Upon arrival, prepare for a challenging yet rewarding hike through nature’s obstacle course. You must waterproof your gear, as it needs to cross a knee-deep river. Get ready for mud-slicked trails, and be prepared for hidden paths marked only by locals and their friendly dogs.

Tip: Weekday trips mean fewer crowds and have a better chance of negotiating the rates of habal-habal.
